The four levels of articles: Translate them from Russian!

Наука 6+

This is where we will have to refer to Russian to understand English. Many think that there are no articles in Russian, but they are mistaken. Russian does have articles; moreover, they are used similarly to English – that is, they would be if we used them properly and systematically instead of skipping them by mutual agreement. Skipping the word does not mean skipping the meaning, however. Therefore, if we just started to pronounce the right word each time we mean it (and there is only one way each time), we would immediately get the right English article by translation. The only problem is that proper translation requires proper matching, but here we are facing another problem which arises from… other European languages, such as French, German, or Spanish. In these languages, articles are traditionally divided in two categories, definite and indefinite. In English and Russian, however, articles are organized more logically in four levels of particularity. When we match four and four, the problem is dissolved. By the way, my teaching experience has demonstrated that English articles are much easier taught to Russians than other Europeans, whose languages depend on the dichotomy of definite vs. indefinite. They strive to match their two types of articles with the English four and fail, whereas Russians just learn to translate their four properly. I hope you understand what I mean.
